Tribute

Wayne passed away unexpectedly at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Wayne is survived by his high school sweetheart and  loving wife of 57 years, Barbara (McArthur), his Son Blair and wife Karena, grandson Joshua, grandaughter Kristina of Port Coquiltlam and daughter Brenda and spouse Kerry and granddaughter Sarah of White Rock.  Wayne was loved and will be missed by his brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and extended family  Wayne was  predeceased by his parents Jessie and Wilfred Stone and brother Robert.

Wayne began school in Kimberley before attending vocational School for Carpentry. He was initiated in the Carpenters Local 1719  in 1961 and apprenticed with Kootenay District Council of Carpenters &  Woodworkers  building houses  & Industrial Work. In 1967 he became Business Agent  for the Kootenay District and moved his family from Chapman Camp (Kimberley)  to Cranbrook.  In 1973 Wayne sat on the Advisory Board of the East Kootenay College which later became the College  of the Rockies.  In 1973 Wayne moved his family to Delta when he became Assistant  to the Administrator of the Carpenters Workers Health , Welfare & Pension Plans.

Wayne was active in Co-op Housing which provided many hours of Union jobs. He represented The N.D.P. on the Handicap Guild, was a Director for C U & C Health  Services Society (now Pacific Blue Cross). Wayne was also on the Provincial Pension Advisory Board and Wayne ultimately took over the job as the Administrator  of Carpenters  Health, Welfare & Pension Plans until he retired.

In the Spring of 2000 Wayne and Barbara moved to the Stone family property in the Village  of Moyie where he  began building their dream home.  They  moved in just in time to host their children and their families  for Christmas that year.  Wayne immediately started volunteering for Moyie Community Association (MCA) and became the  Chairperson in 2002. This was a   Position he was proud to hold for 15 years and he became known as “the Mayor of Moyie”.

Respected by many, his biggest joy in life came from being a dad, a Papa and spending time with friends and family. He loved to help friends and neighbours in big and little ways. He cut the Community grass for 20 years, made hand crafted signs for the town, finished the interior of the Moyie Museum and looked after many a community property.

Wayne loved to fish, ski, boat and spend a lot of time outdoors (only some of which was spent trying to hide from “Nana” to sneak a Century Sam).   A self taught Master Carver, Wayne’s ducks are so detailed and special they are prized by anyone who was lucky enough to be gifted one.

Taking five on the deck overlooking the Lake with a beer and a cigar in hand is how we will remember you best. 

We will miss you Wayne, Dad, Papa, Uncle and Friend. 

Life just won’t be the same without you to share it with.

Due to COVID restrictions, a Celebration of Wayne’s life will take place during the summer of 2021.  If friends desire, the family has requested donations be made in lieu of flowers to Ducks Unlimited, c/o Paul Visentin, 1269 Pocha Road, Cranbrook, BC  V1C 6Y8.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com.
