January 4, 1931 - October 31, 2024
Tribute
Willy Josina Jacoba Jansen, 93, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024 in Cranbrook, British Columbia, surrounded by loved ones.
Willy was born on January 4, 1931, in Amsterdam, Holland to Wilhelmus and Anthonya Hesp. On November 20, 1956, Willy married Anthony Jansen, and together they started to create a beautiful family filled with love and many cherished traditions. In 1959, the family immigrated to Canada, where they invoked their entrepreneurial spirit to build a number of family businesses, including Sunnyside Upholstery, and expanded to a family of four. Willy’s hard work and dedication to her family continued as her children (and their children) built families of their own.
Willy was known for her generosity, love, and sense of humor. Throughout her life, she was a source of strength and love to her family and friends. She was a devoted caretaker and nurturer, both to her family and as a beloved friend to many. She had a deep passion for knitting, sewing, crocheting, and winning games including cards, rummy cubes, and bingo. She had amazing talent and drive that she lovingly shared with her children and grandchildren, leaving a legacy of creativity, warmth, and compassion.
Willy is survived by her son Leo (Kathy) and their children Aurora and Eric (Laura), her daughter Nonja and her children Amara, Danica (Daryl), and Ariel (Justin). Her legacy of love continues through her great-grandchildren Bensyn, Jett, and Gunner. Willy was predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony Jansen, of whom she shared a life of nearly 60 years.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Lunge, the nurses at East Kootenay Regional Hospital, the Home Care Nurses at Interior Health, the staff and residents of Garden View Village Assisted Living Facility, and all the friends who have supported Willy and her family during this time.
Forever in our hearts, Willy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of Willy’s life will be held in the spring or summer of 2025.

Thank you Mom for being you. And thank you for being so alert and pragmatic right to the end. Before your final passing, you shared your thoughts and expectations, and asked as to what you wanted and how, which helped soften the blow of losing you. I love you Mom. I miss you Mom. I expect that you will reside in my thoughts for a very long time.
