Edward John Edey

July 28, 1942 - October 17, 2023

Tribute

It is with great sadness we announce that Ed has passed, at the age of 81, after a brief battle with cancer.  His last day was made as comfortable as possible with his wife, sons and a grandson by his side and country music playing in the room.  He is survived by his wife Lorraine (nee Andrusiak) and sons David (Julian, Quinn) and Dennis (Dakota, Dylan).

A company man, Ed worked for Cominco for 35 years.  Starting with the timbergang in the Bluebell mine in the 1960s.  In 1970 he transferred to the Sullivan Mine to continue his work making the mine safe for his co-workers.

Later, Ed trained at the Rossland Mining School to be a heavy equipment operator.  With these new skills, Cominco transferred him to their fertilizer operations where he could be seen for a decade or more moving and organizing phosphate rock at the south end of the  plant.

After the fertilizer operations closure, Ed transferred back to the Sullivan Mine to work the lube truck and and the tool crib.

Ed’s career’s final stage was as a hi-hab truck driver moving equipment and material all through Cominco’s Kimberley operations.  His final years before retiring were spent helping the mine and concentrator operations come to a close.

Away from work, Ed was a family man and always helping others in need.

Ed’s passion for old vehicles led him to serve as president of Kootenay Antique and Vintage Car Club for a term.  His other love of his life was his 1949 Ford F-29 panel truck.

Ed was president of Big Brothers Club for Kimberley and Wasa area for a term as he wanted to see no kid go without and believed that being out in nature was a cure for the soul.

An avid outdoorsman, Ed’s family will keep great memories of hunting, fishing, trail biking, snowmobiling, ice fishing, camping, hotspring soaking and sitting by the campfire in their hearts.  His jokes, stories and smiles will be missed.

At his request, there will be no funeral.  A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
