Gerald (Gerry) Joseph Cunningham passed away peacefully at the F. W. Green Home in Cranbrook, BC with his family by his side on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the age of 81 years.
Gerry was born on December 6, 1929 in Onoway, Alberta. He married his wife of 59 years, Della May Rathbone in 1952 in McBride, BC where all six of their children were born. After several moves around the province, they eventually settled in Cranbrook, BC in 1971. Gerry was an avid outdoorsman who loved to participate in many sports. He brought home many medals from the BC Seniors Games for slow pitch and floor curling.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife, Della; his children, Loren (Robert) Guerin, Glenn (Marlene) Cunningham, Deanna (Simon) Ford, Susan Cunningham, and Kevin Cunningham as well as 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Gerry also leaves behind one sister, Jean Callaghan. Gerry was predeceased by his oldest son Terry Lee Cunningham, and two sisters, Evelyn Wells and Eileen Nelligan.
A memorial service to celebrate Gerry”s life will be held at a later date.
