Jacqueline ("Jackie") Ruth Letcher (Wyman)

March 30, 1933 - November 21, 2022

Tribute

In 1928, Arthur and Vera Wyman travelled from Nova Scotia to Sentinel, Alberta, and this is where Jacqueline was born in 1933.

She attended early school in the Crows Nest Pass until the family moved to Fernie in 1941, then attending schools in Fernie and participating in various activities including marching band, girl guides, CGIT, highland dancing and piano lessons, at one point taking her exam from the instructor from McGill University in Montreal and tying for first place in Canada.  At one time she played the saxophone, guitar and later the accordion.  After graduating high school she attended Mount Royal College, obtaining her secretarial degree.

She married Cecil Letcher on November 8, 1952, and they recently celebrated 70 years together, the majority of their lives spent in Roosville, BC.

Together they built a four unit motel and operated it for many years.  She was the chief bookkeeper for Cecil’s logging business, the motel, their farm and orchard.  She kept a large garden, chickens and also became a certified beekeeper many years ago.  “Jackie” was a lifelong member of the Triangle Women’s Institute, the United Church and was the church organist.  As a family, we enjoyed many years of square dancing.  Sewing, knitting, cross stitch, needle point, cross words, “Jeopardy”, jig saw puzzles and corresponding with friends and pen pals were some favorite pastimes.

She was predeceased by her parents, a younger brother, Robin Wyman and an infant daughter, Karen.

She is survived by her husband Cecil Letcher, two daughters Charlene (Renato) and Cecile (Lachlan), grandchildren Kara, Miranda, Jaret, Amy, Daniel, Jessica and Donald and great grandchildren, Logan, Maddie, Brantley,  Austin, Dakota, Alex, Jaxon and Emily.

At her request there will not be a service or funeral.  Cremation has taken place.

We will miss her deeply, she was a gentle lady, and she will always be held dear in our hearts as we remember her with love and many good times over the years.

Cecil, Char, Cecile and families, we are so very very sorry to hear of your great loss. Jacqueline’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this most difficult time.

From: Debbie Allen

I am sorry to hear of Jackie’s passing. I have fond memories of the Letcher family. I played with Charlene when we lived at Waldo and loved riding the go cart Cecil built for us. Jackie was indeed a kind and gentle soul. My own Mom is gone too but I will send the news to heaven for her. I am thinking of you all with the deepest sympathy.
