Linda "Janet" Leggett (Nightingale)

May 11, 1952 - February 18, 2021

Tribute

Janet Leggett (nee Nightingale) passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021 after a fast and fierce four week battle with pancreatic cancer.  She was 68 years old. Janet was predeceased by her parents Fred and Vivian Nightingale and by her loving husband Terry Leggett (2008).   She is survived by her son, Michael (Rhian) and her five grandchildren, Teagan, Devyn, Addyson, Tenley and Benson.  She also leaves behind her sisters Patricia Ridley (Bob), Karen Bristow, three step sons, Kevin, Keith and Clive and their families.

Janet was born May 11, 1952 in Guelph, Ontario. She grew up in Rockwood, Ontario with her parents and two sisters. After Janet met her husband Terry at work and fell head over heels for him, they were married and soon welcomed a baby boy, Michael. They decided to continue their adventures by moving out west and eventually setting up roots in Cranbrook, B.C.

Janet was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She was a very talented knitter, quilter and crocheter.  She enjoyed being involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Ladies Auxiliary as well as Cranbrook Scouting, Crime Stoppers and the Quilters Guild. She enjoyed  any time she was able to visit with her son and his family. She was very proud of Mike and his career with the Calgary Police Service.

Janet will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no service at this time.

From: Tammy Legacy
Relation: Spouse of her stepson Clive

I first met Jan when I flew out to Alberta for Mike and Rhian‘s wedding. Her stepson Clive is my spouse and was the only person I knew upon arrival. There was much to do and everybody was busy and Jan immediately welcomed me into the family and made me feel so comfortable that I forgot I was meeting everybody for the very first time. She kept in touch after that and she will always hold a special place in my heart for her kindness.

From: Gregory Sayer
Relation: Former sister in law

Our deepest condolences. She was a wonderful sister in law and a fantastic aunt.

Our deep condolences to the rest of the family! Aunt Janet was a wonderful woman who immediately made me feel welcome as part of the nightingale extended family. She gave me my absolute most favorite measuring cup! I always think of her when I use it. She will be missed and our prayers are with her family.

Mike and family. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Janet’s passing. She was a lovely person and we enjoyed many quilting events over the years. She would talk about how proud she was of you and the family man you have become. I will miss her a lot

Mike, I am so sorry to read of your Mom’s passing. I remember as one of the wonderful Murier Baxter Moms. Best wishes to you and your family for healing and consolation.

From: Rhonda Beeman
Relation: Long time friend

Mike and family – I am so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. We spoke via phone shortly after she moved into The Pines in Kimberley. We were friends many years ago when you and your parents resided in the townhouses in Cranbrook. We lost touch for quite a few years after she moved. She was a wonderful woman who would help anyone and everyone. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on your loss.
