Terry Lyle Martin

September 18, 1950 - May 22, 2023

Tribute

Terry was born in Kimberley on September 18, 1950 to Lyle & Marie Martin. He was the 5th of 7 children.

Terry had the “good” old days childhood. Playing outside from morning to night, swimming at McDougall Pool, biking to Cherry Creek to fish, hiking in the bush or hanging at the Hall.

Terry spent most of his working life at Cominco. First in Trail and then Kimberley at the Iron Plant and the mine. After the mine closure he worked at Baffin Island, Vancouver, Revelstoke and 2 mines up North.

Retirement took Terry’s puttering to a whole new level. He could spend an entire day in the yard with no visible results. But the pond & fish were well taken care of and his chair in the patio well used.

Terry loved hockey & especially his Habs. Even before his boys were born he helped Woody with “Woody’s Warriors”. Once the boys came along he coached all age groups & was President of Minor Hockey for 1 term. His first aid skills helped him become the trainer for the Kimberley Dynamiters & he felt very blessed to have been part of the 1978 Allen Cup win. After his training years, he was a loyal fan of the Dynamiters and spent the last few years in his standing reserved spot with the guys.

Terry’s last days were spent the way he handled his whole life, taking each minute with grace, humility, gratefulness & kindness. He expressed how very proud he was of the fine men his sons Karey & Jeff were and all their accomplishments, the blessings his daughter-in-law Sar has brought to the family and the overwhelming love he felt for his smart, funny grandchildren Jack & Aleena. He felt grateful for the many years he shared with his wife & best friend Cathy.

Terry didn’t like any fuss so, at his request, there will be no formal Celebration. A little get together may take place later in the summer.

In his memory donations can be made to Kimberley Minor Hockey or the local branch of the SPCA.

The family would like to say thank you to Cranbrook Oncology, Dr. Van Zyl & to an absolute angel Nula.

I only met Terry times but I know Karey so well and I know what a fine man he raised. I spent sometime in Kimberley and always felt welcomed. I know you will feel his loss deeply, but I believe he will live on in his children and grandchildren. Rest easy
